Our Ministries

Our Values

Our mission is to love and to serve. We do this by valuing all the members of our congregation and community as Christ taught us to do:
By actively celebrating our faith throughout the year as a demonstration of our gratitude for the blessings God has conferred on us;
By practicing Christian spirituality through prayer, Bible study, outreach and love for all;
By creating and maintaining an atmosphere that welcomes everyone to our worship program of liturgy and music, to our garden for rest and reflection, and to our Parish Hall for fellowship.

Our Motto
"No Hate Here!"

Five area churches cooperate to serve needs in the Belhaven community.

St. James Episcopal Church of Belhaven is proud to  participate with four other area churches in Team Coalition, a faith-based community group that helps to serve those in need in our community. St James has recently helped to pay for gas or electric bills, rent and paid for medical needs.

Thomas Wahab was a longtime resident of Belhaven who served 30 years as a pilot in the US Army Air Corps/US Air Force, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Thomas was passionate about rural healthcare, actively participating in efforts to keep the hospital in Belhaven from closing and being demolished. St. James established and administers the Thomas W. Wahab Memorial Healthcare Fund to help those in need of dental and health procedures with no means to pay for it.

Martha’s Project is a nonprofit in the Belhaven community dedicated to meeting the needs of locals — physically and spiritually. Volunteers distribute food boxes to 150-200 families every month, along with other charitable acts, mostly funded through sales at Martha’s Thrift Store.
